Rep. Gregg Harper (R-MS), member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, was asked in an interview by Anne Schroeder Mullins of Politico what that organization does. He replied:
We hunt liberal, tree-hugging Democrats, although it does seem like a waste of good ammunition.
Glenn Thrush, also of Politico, followed this up with Harper’s spokesman Adam Buckelew:
Harper spokesman Adam Buckalew told me to lighten up. “He wrote it himself,” Buckalew said. “It’s supposed to be fun…It’s having a good time.”
I have not forgotten similar remarks by Republican candidate for Idaho governor Rex Rammell of Idaho. So, again: in what universe is this sort of thing funny? Not this one, where, as Stephen Suh points out on Cogitamus, there are 400% more threats recorded against President Obama than there were against President Bush.
I feel sick.
EDITED TO ADD: More unfunny conservative “humor,” Halloween costume ed.
EDITED AGAIN TO ADD: Dave Neiwert’s take.

In the same universe in which bringing a loaded long-range firearm to a speech by the President of the United States is just an “exercise in Constitutional rights.”

I don’t know … who thought it was funny when Glenn Beck joked about poisoning Nancy Pelosi?
Or the buttons at the Texas Republican Convention asking, “If Obama wins, will we still call it the White House?”
As a Christian who was once a member of the Republican Party, I wonder what it will take for other Christians to wake up.
