There’s a church in my neighborhood, run along fairly fundamentalist lines by a guy who always seems to me to be looking for a fight. (With evil, I’m sure, but I suspect he sees evil in places where it might not be.) Anyway, they just hung a banner that reads, “If you want Bible, you want [Name] Bible Church.” Does that sound pugnacious, or is it just me?

Only a little, but very likely false advertising…
the hype is ripe, and again a sin. Bible as a verb… get your Bible fix here.
Perhaps key is what chapter and verse you want, some smiting god or peace and fellowship.

It’s true! I have read that conservative preachers preach principally from the Old Testament and Paul’s letters, while liberal preachers tend to preach from the Gospels. My experience is that people who rely heavily on the Bible’s literal truth are more on the “smiting God” side.

Oh my gosh. I keep thinking I’ll stop being shocked at the crass nature of these signs. Several problems: 1. The arrogance. please! 2. the obvious use of American marketing slogan techniques from bad commercials. Do means and method mean nothing to these people? 3. A willingness to put other churches down to plug yourself, again just like any other commercial. “You’ve tried the rest, now try the best!”
